Behind the Voice

Aloha! My name is Yumiko Nakagawa. I’m the voice behind Your Voice Hawaii — its founder and working interpreter, committed to helping people truly understand and be understood.

With a background in law, political science, diplomacy, and theology — and over a decade of hands-on interpreting experience — , I am dedicated to breaking down language barriers and facilitating seamless communication. My priority is to ensure that your voice is heard and understood clearly in every interaction.

Originally hailing from Japan, my journey has taken me from Doshisha University to Amherst College, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, deepening my understanding of diverse fields and cultures.

As a Tier 1 Court Interpreter for the State of Hawai’i Judiciary, I’ve had the privilege of serving in a range of settings — from legal courts and academic institutions such as Showa University in Boston and the University of Hawai’i, to a global firms such as Klarquist Sparkman LLP and Daiwa House. My approach is grounded in professionalism, accuracy, and a genuine commitment to ensuring that all voices are heard and understood.
